Dr. B.V. Rao Institute of Poultry Management and Technology, unique of its kind was established in the year 1984 as a Public trust and non profit making organization. The Institute is located near Uruli Kanchan town which is about 33 km away from Pune city and about 185 km from Mumbai. The campus is spread over 46 acres of land and has excellent infrastructure facilities like:
- Layer farm with 47,000 layer bird capacity.
- Broiler farm with 36,000 broiler bird capacity.

Through Venkateshwara Hatcheries Group of companies, which is the most integrated Poultry Group in Asia and who are the sponsors of the Institute, we have access to additional specialized facilities like large Hatchery, large scale Feed Mill, Diagnostic Laboratories, Vaccine and Animal Health Product Divisions, Egg and Poultry Processing Plants, Fast Food Industry etc.
The Institute primarily conducts three regular and four short-duration, specialized courses to meet the immediate requirements of the present and prospective poultry farmers.
DR. BVR IPMT has facilities to impart training to ladies also. Lady candidates not only from states of India, but from overseas also have undertaken training at DR.BVR IPMT. The Institute has trained more than 7500 persons, both gents and ladies from India and abroad.
For the excellent work carried out in the field of poultry education, the Institute was awarded “WPSA Education Award” by the World Poultry Science Association. The Institute has also received “The Indian Poultry Journalists’ Association Award – 2009” for the outstanding work done in the field of poultry education and The Institute also received the “Shiksha Bharati Puraskar” award by the All India Achievers Foundation.
The Institute has conducted special training programs for Government of India, Ministry of Agriculture and Ministry of Food Processing Industries, New Delhi also.
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO of UN), Rome had sponsored senior officers from developing countries like Bangladesh and Vietnam, for training programs of different durations in specialized areas of Poultry farming, depending on their individual needs, as tailor-made programs.
Private candidates from overseas like Bangla Desh, Malaysia, Middle East (Sultanate of Oman), Nigeria and Nepal have also undergone different training programs on their own. State Government of Bihar, Assam and Sikkim have been sending candidates regularly for different special/regular courses at IPMT.
Department of Livestock under the Government of India Livestock Project has been regularly sending the Extension Officers and farm Managers working in Royal Government of Bhutan Organization for one month’s training in batch of 10 each.
Institute also organized a Special Training Program for Faculty of Fontana Poultry Training School in Nigeria, to train prospective poultry farmers in Nigeria. The Institute has also conducted special, tailor-made programs as per the needs of the clients like Director, Animal Husbandry, Andhra Pradesh, Hyderabad, Indo-Swiss Project – Orissa; National Bank of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mumbai; M/s. Godrej Agrovet Industries, Mumbai, M/s. Hoechst Roussel Vet Pvt. Ltd., Pune, etc.
The Institute is also in a position to offer practical and relevant training to the fellow entrepreneurs in the region ranging from Africa, Middle-East to South-east Asian countries, – the tailor-made courses, as per their need and requirements.The Institute also undertakes experiments and research in various areas of poultry science, especially applied research, which will reduce the cost of production and increase the margin of profit of poultry farmers.
The Maharashtra Animal & Fishery Sciences University, Nagpur, has recognized this Institute as a “Training institute for interns of the University and also for the certificate courses of this Institute”.
Government of India, Ministry of Science and Technology, New Delhi, has recognized the Institute as a “Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (SIRO)”.
The Institute has been offering facilities for conducting field trials for different pharmaceutical products/ enzymes/ probiotics/ growth promoters etc. About more than 55 Indian as well as multinational companies have availed this facility in last few years
